The Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA), New Jersey Chapter, is a national non-profit voluntary health agency. Huntington's Disease (HD) is a devastating, hereditary, degenerative brain disorder for which there is, at present, no effective treatment or cure. The mission of HDSA is to promote and support research directed at discovering a treatment and ultimately a cure for HD; to help HD individuals and their families through support and services at their three NJ clinics located in Stratford, Piscataway, and Newark; and to educate both public and health care professionals about HD. Volunteers are needed for a variety of long and short term fundraising activities and special events (18 and over, 13-17 with adult supervision). Bass River State Forest
Bass River State Forest - New Jersey's FIRST State Forest, established in 1905. The State Park Service has formal Volunteers in Parks and hosts several volunteer events throughout the year, such as "Earth Day", "National Trails Day", "National Public Lands Day" and sometimes "Make a Difference Day". Recent projects include cleaning dumped trash out of the woods, developing a surfaced trail, removing tree seedlings from the septic field and replanting them, removing invasive species, trimming trails, marking trails w/our flexible trail markers, cleaning up trash from the edges of the lakeshore and weeding the flower beds. Indoor projects include staffing the office phones, filing, making copies of event flyers, signing people up for events, checking campers in and learning the administrative processes of running a state forest .Volunteers 16 yrs. old or under must be accompanied by parent or guardian & volunteers 17 yrs. old must have written permission from parent or guardian.
